Cedar Valley Nature Trail Closures/Updates

Posted:4/23/2024 Black Hawk

Black Hawk County Conservation is continuing with efforts to improve the southern portion of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail in Black Hawk and Buchanan Counties which is currently unpaved. The contractor is expected to be back on the trail beginning May 6th, to continue with the preparations for the roadway crossings and asphalt paving of the approximately 9.4 miles of currently chip stone trail. The trail will be closed beginning May 6th from King Road to the Bear Creek Bridge.

Work being completed on the unpaved portion of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail is being funded through a Destination Iowa Grant and American Rescue Plan Act funding.

In addition, beginning in late June/early July, work will begin to replace three trail bridges on the northern end of the trail including the E3 Bridge over Sink Creek; C1 Bridge over Miller Creek; and M1 Bridge just south of King Road which carries the trail over a backwater area of the Cedar River. These bridge replacements include some associated paving to repair any damaged asphalt during construction and the paving of three gravel road crossings including Weiden Road, McKellar Road, and Miller Creek Road.

Depending on funding and weather, Black Hawk County Conservation plans to continue with the trail improvements with additional asphalt overlay of various sections of northern portion of the trail.

Please avoid the closed areas and obey ALL trail closure signage. The closures are for the safety of the public and the contractors.   Thank You for your cooperation and patience as we work to improve the Cedar Valley Nature Trail.
