Lunch and Learn: Bioblitz and Beyond- Prairie Creek Past, Present and Future

Hurstville Interpretive Center, Jackson County

Sunday, January 15, 2017

Jennie Willcox completed a study for the University of Illinois and Jackson County Conservation using data from the bioblitz species inventories of 2015 at Prairie Creek Recreation Area. From this data and through further research, the current plant and bird species populations were analyzed in order to form future land use recommendations. She will present her findings on historical ecosystem and land use patterns of the Prairie Creek area, existing common, rare and invasive local species populations and calculated floristic quality assessment data; which is a scientific method used to judge the quality of plant life found at a site. Future recommendations for land management of Prairie Creek Recreation Area based on these findings will be presented. Enjoy a delicious lunch along with the presentation prepared by our Friends kitchen enthusiasts. Menu includes savory soups, grilled cheese sandwich bar, desserts and drinks. Cost for program and meal is $10 (with $2.00 online processing fees). Proceeds go to the Prairie Creek Pavilion. Tickets on sale through January 12th.
