10 Before 10 Challenge
What are your favorite childhood memories? Do they involve playing outdoors? Then you are like millions of other Americans whose best memories include a lot of nature-based play; such as climbing trees, digging holes to ‘China’,exploring the nearby creek and catching frogs.Now look at children today. Are their best childhood memories going to involve playing outdoors? Chances are they might not since on average children spend 27% of their time in front of electronics and only 1% of their time outdoors.Jackson County Conservation would like to help provide some great memories of outdoor fun for you and your family this year! We invite you to join us in our 10 Before 10 Challenge. An article from T he Washington Post had a list of suggestions of what kids should accomplish in their first decade. We have added more nature based activities to the list that we feel everyone should participate in before the age of 10 (or for the rest of you, before the age of 99!).10 Before 10 Challenge Rules— Download the participant form from our website at www.jacksonccb.com or pick one up at the Hurstville Interpretive Center. Complete 10 of the 30 activities listed by November 18, 2013. At least 5 of the activities must be done at one of our public programs this spring, summer or fall. The remaining activities can be done on your own or with family and friends. We welcome all ages to participate in our challenge. We have some great prizes such as gift certificates for camping and to area businesses,outdoor gear and more.  Want to complete 20 or 30 of the activities? Great!We’ll enter your name 2 or 3 times respectively into the drawings.
