Learn the nearly lost art of bow
building under the guidance of an experienced instructor during a special
workshop. See the article on page ??? for more information. Cost: $230 per
person. Pre-registration is $30 with a deadline is September 8th,
the remaining $200 must be mailed and received by Sept. 14.
Over time, many types of building
skills have been lost to modern manufacturing. A skill that is still used
today, as it has been for generations, is bow building. If you have an interest in building your own bow built from one piece of wood, also known as a selfbow, with
the help of an experienced instructor, this is your chance. The style of bow is
also referred to as a longbow.
Gene Winter has been building bows
for many years and will be sharing his skill with workshop participants during
the course which will be held on Saturday, September 18, plus Sunday, September
19 from 8am – 4:30pm. The workshop will be held at Wickiup Hill Learning
Center.
Workshop cost is $230 per person
which includes one stave. Additional staves may be purchased for an additional
cost. Pre-registration by September 8 is required with a $30 deposit, with the
remaining $200 check made out to Winter Bow Shoppe and secured at Wickiup by
Sept. 14. Contact Chuck at 319-892-6485 for details. Class size is limited. Bow building typically
requires the manual dexterity of someone high school age or older. Expect to
work hard outside, dress accordingly and bring a pair of leather work
gloves. Bring a sack lunch with you each
day, refrigerator and microwave are available to participants.
