Annual Photo Contest
Deadline: January 31 at midnight.
· All entries must be emailed to mccb@marshallcountyia.gov titled Photo Contest by Wednesday, January 31 at midnight.
In the body of your email, state the category for the photograph(s), your name, address, a brief description of the photo, and phone number. No photos will be accepted in person. Do not compress photos in email.
· Photographs will be judged the week of February 5 for the categories listed below.
· Categories: Scenic (Natural Resources), Native Wildlife, Native Plants, Open Nature, and Outdoor Recreation. Winners of each category will receive a $25 gift certificate. For more information on the categories, https://www.marshallcountyia.gov/510/Annual-Photo-Contest
· All photographs received will be posted on Facebook from February 5 through February 11. The photograph that gets the most likes for Peoples’ Choice will win a $25 gift certificate.
· All certificates will be mailed to winners.
PHOTO CONTEST RULES
The Marshall County Conservation Board will be sponsoring its 23rd annual natural
resource/conservation photo contest. There are five categories for adults: Scenic (Natural
Resources), Native Plants, Native Wildlife, Outdoor Recreation (NEW), and Open Nature.
There is a special open class for youth age 17 & younger. Contest rules are as follows:
All entries must be emailed to mccb@marshallcountyia.gov titled Photo Contest by Tuesday, January
31 at midnight. In the body of your email state the category for the photograph(s), your name,
address, brief description of the photo (if you have multiples) and phone number. No photos will be
accepted in person. Photos need to be saved with the following title: Your name Category Title of
Photo, example JohnDoe NativePlants BeautfulButterflyMilkweed. Please do not compress photos if
sent from a cellphone in email.
Photographs will be judged the week of February 5, for the categories listed below.

The week of February 5 through February 11, all photographs received will be posted on Facebook. The
photograph that gets the most likes for Peoples’ Choice will win a $25 gift certificate.
There will be no chili supper, therefore all certificates will be mailed to winners.
1. Winning photos become property of the MCCB to be displayed by the MCCB.
2. MCCB employees and their families are not eligible to enter the contest.
3. (a) Each adult photo entered must 1) depict an aspect of Marshall County’s natural
resources/conservation except for the open category (for the open category it still has to be
nature related but does not have be taken in Marshall County) and 2) fit into one of the
theme categories.
4. Each youth photo entered must 1) depict an aspect of Marshall County’s natural
5. resources/conservation and 2) fit into any of the adult theme categories.
6. A $25 gift certificate will be awarded to the winning photo for each category.
7. Photos that are graphic, inappropriate or not fitting into a category will be disqualified at
the discretion of the MCCB staff.
Definition of categories:
Scenic: providing or relating to views of impressive or beautiful natural scenery. Must be
taken in Marshall County.
Native plants: a photo of a plant that is native to Iowa. Must be taken in Marshall County.
Please avoid invasive species such as Queen’s Anne lace, parsnip, etc.

Native wildlife: a photo of an animal that is native to Iowa. Must be taken in Marshall
County. Please avoid domestic livestock, pets, house sparrows, mute swans, and other
invasive species.

Outdoor Recreation: must depict outdoor recreation such as biking, fishing, running,
kayaking, etc. Must be taken in Marshall County.
Open Nature: must be nature related but does not have to be taken in Marshall County.
