Potratz Natural Area
The Portratz Natural Area is the result of the historic floods in 2008. Once containing several homes and buildings, the area is now a "green space" open for the public's enjoyment. The site contains a mix of tree species including oak, walnut, ash, and willow along with several open grassy areas. The north end of the area is also adjacent to a small, shallow wetland. White tailed deer along with other small mammals and birds use this natural area. Bow Hunting Only is allowed due to the proximity of the Finchford Community. The old building sites have recently been planted with tree seedlings to reforest these open areas.
Please respect private property by observing the Park Boundary signs located throughout the property.
Location
Potratz Natural Area is located on the northwest corner of the Finchford Rd. bridge. W. Fork Rd. splits the site into two sections. From North Union Rd., go west onto Winslow Rd. into the small community of Finchford. Go north onto Finchford Rd. over the bridge.
