Prairie Walks and Talks
MAY 30 2025 5:00 PM
Event Summary
Buchanan County has many unique remnant prairies spread throughout its park system. These range from dry sand prairies to water saturated fens. Join Conservation Director Ben Bonar in exploring these sites and learn how to identify prairie plants along the way! The spring prairie walk will take place at Bearbower Sand Prairie. Participants can expect to see numerous prairie plants in bloom during this walk including Hoary Puccoon, Large Flowered Beardtongue and Pasture Rose. A short presentation will also be provided on current restoration work taking place at the site. This program will be a three-part series with a summer walk taking place at Crumbacher Wildlife Area and a fall walk at Rowley Fen.
