Songbird Banding

Get outside on a beautiful Saturday morning and see songbirds up close. Francis Moore from the Prairie Rapids Audubon Society will be at the nature center to catch and band wild song birds. The birds are captured using thin netting, and are then documented, banded, and returned to the wild. Following the bird program, stick around to fish during the Fontana Reservoir Fishing Derby (see below)! Fishing Derby 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Fontana Kids Fishing Derby

Bring your pole, catch fish, and win prizes! The Fontana Fishing Derby is open to anyone age 16 and younger. Adults can fish too, and can help very young children, but all qualifying fish must be reeled in by kids. The Derby is being held during Iowa's Free Fishing Weekend, which means a fishing license is not required (other fishing rules and regulations still apply). Prizes will be awarded for largest and most fish caught. There is no entry fee and people can register upon arrival.
