OWLS - Fen Walk and Talk
SEP 09 2021 5:00 PM
Event Summary
OWLS is a program specifically designed for adults to learn about and explore nature in and around Buchanan County. Join a Buchanan County Naturalist to discover Rowley Fen. A fen is a unique wetland area created as ground water moves upward through limestone bedrock. During thousands of years, organic matter builds up forming a spongy, sometimes even bouncy, peat bed with unique wetland plants and animals. While exploring the fen, the group may see fringed gentians, turtleheads, Riddles goldenrod, grass-of-parnassus, and many more fen plants. Please be sure to bring waterproof boots, and be able to walk on uneven ground.
