Event Summary
Buena Vista County Conservation is hosting a series entitled “Building Better Birders and Citizen Science Workshops.” There will be four workshops focusing on all different species of birds and will be held throughout the summer at various conservation properties. These workshops will be conducted by Kelly McKay (BioEco Research and Monitoring Center) with assistance from Mark Roberts (Clinton County Conservation), and Brian Ritter (Nahant Marsh Education Center).
The workshops are free of charge and you are welcome to come for a whole day, partial day, or a just a class that interests you. Snacks, water, and lemonade will be supplied throughout the workshop but bring your own lunch. Bring appropriate walking shoes if you plan on participating in the bird walk, along with sunscreen, bug spray, and dress for weather.
The third workshop will be held at Buena Vista County Conservation Park South Shelter Area on Thursday, August 12th from 8:30 AM to 5:15 PM. The times and classes are listed below:
Thursday, August 12th ~ Third Workshop
8:30 - 10:00 ~ Bird walk
10:00 - 10:15 ~ Break
10:15 - 12:15 ~ Introduction to the Flycatchers, Vireos, Swallows, and Similar Species Class
12:15 - 1:00 ~ Lunch (Please bring your own)
1:00 – 1:15 ~ Break
1:15 – 3:15 ~ Introduction to the Thrushes, Wrens, and Similar Species Class
3:15 - 3:30 ~ Snack (Provided by BV Conservation)
3:30 – 4:15 ~ Naturalist program on Monarch Butterflies
4:15 - 5:15 ~ Bird Walk
5:15 ~ End of Workshop 3
Registration is required for the bird workshop, please contact the Conservation Office at 712-295-7985 by Wednesday, August 11th to RSVP. When calling to register please let us know if you plan to attend the full workshop or only certain classes.
Funding for the workshop was provided by the Resource Enhancement Protection – Conservation Education Program (REAP- CEP)

∙ Please do not go to any activity if you have a fever, are exhibiting symptoms, have been recently diag nosed, or have been around someone recently diagnosed with Covid-19 in the last 2 weeks.
∙ Social distancing is encouraged. You are welcome to bring your own mask and wear it.
∙ Participants will be required to use hand sanitizer before and after touching any objects provided by the CCCB.
