Wild Souls Camp ~ Forest & Prairies
Buena Vista County Conservation Park, Buena Vista County
Friday, August 16, 2024
The Buena
Vista County Conservation and Clay County Conservation Boards have partnered up
to present Wild Souls Camp. Wild Souls Camp is for anyone over the age of
eighteen who wants to get outside and explore nature.
Our
second camp of the summer will be held on Friday, August 16th at the North Area
of Buena Vista County Conservation Park from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Camp will
start off with learning to make Dutch Oven pizzas. While the
pizzas cook, campers can go on a short excursion to the prairie
to catch and identify insects.
We
will also learn how to identify monarch butterfly eggs and a number of
different butterfly species. We will provide insect nets and bug
houses, but please come prepared to get dirty. Long pants and sturdy shoes
are a must!
After
our insect frolic, we will return to the campfire to
enjoy the pizzas. After lunch we will head down the trail for a hike.
Along the way we will identify birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and
more.
Once
the hike has concluded we will head back to camp to create grapevine
wreaths to take home and enjoy some snacks.
What
do you need to bring? Clothes that can get dirty, long pants, sturdy closed
toed shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, and a water bottle.
Registration
is required for this event as we have limited space available. To
register call the Buena Vista County Conservation Office at 712 -295-7985 by
Wednesday, August 14th at 4:00 PM.
