Join Clayton County Conservation and the Motor Mill Foundation in celebrating the opening of the restored Inn at Motor. A ribbon cutting will begin the day at 11 AM and guided tours will be offered of the inn and the mill until 5 PM. Pioneer themed games are being held out front of the Inn. Hike the quarry at 1pm and attend a prairie walk at 3pm. There will also be a food stand located near the Inn.
The Inn first served as a residence for founder John Thompson while the mill was being built, and it also roomed farmers who were waiting on their grain to be floured. Now, almost 150 years later, the Inn at Motor has been refurbished back to its prime and will be open for rental and used as a welcome center to the historic site that is Motor Mill.
Get to Motor Mill multiple ways, biking, canoeing/kayaking the turkey river to our canoe access located at the Motor Mill campground or driving. Motor Mill is located at 28518 Galaxy Road, Elkader, IA 52043. Going south on Hwy 13, take X3C (Grandview Road) east about 3.5 miles; turn left on gravel Hazel Road and immediately take a left on Galaxy Road. Then drive 1.5 Miles to Motor Mill.
