O.W.L.S (Older, Wiser, Livelier, Souls) Shiitake Mushroom Growing Workshop

Event Summary

This season O.W.L.S. will be travelling around Northeast Iowa to find unique farms and businesses who are growing it locally. For our first destination, OWLS will be growing mushrooms with Turkey River Farms.Pete and Natasha Hegmann will be teaching participants to grow shiitake mushrooms on logs with the help of Will Lorentzen or Jupiter Ridge Farm.  Each participant will receive a mushroom log that they have inoculated themselves as they learn how to grow mushrooms.The program will include a luncheon prepared by Turkey River Farm. Make sure to dress for the weather for this farm tour and workshop.

Meet at Osborne Park at 9:45 to shuttle to the farm. Please make reservations as early as possible to make sure we have enough supplies on hand by calling (563) 245-1516 or visit the Osborne Nature Center.Cost for workshop, mushroom log, and lunch:$25.00 per person$40.00 per couple (one log)$15.00 for extra log.
