Climbing Denali… Or At Least Trying
Wednesday, March 27th, 7:00 PM
Osborne Nature Center
Marquette resident and local adventurer Don Smalley had a goal to reach the highest point in all 50 states. With 49 states in the bag, he got close… very close. But the highest peak in North America is no simple walk in the park. At over 20,000 feet in elevation, Alaska’s Mount Denali is one of the most challenging climbs on earth.
Come and hear about Don’s 19-day battle with “The Great One” at this fantastic, free program hosted at the Osborne Nature Center. Attendees will hear about the skills and equipment involved in mountaineering, hear some incredible stories, and see some amazing photographs from the summit attempt.
The Osborne Center is located on Highway 13, ten miles north of Strawberry Point or five miles south of Elkader. The center is open from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday-Saturday. Please call 563-245-1516 for more information or visit www.claytoncountyconservation.org.
