Goldenrod Dyeing

Eden Valley Refuge, Clinton County

Wednesday, August 21, 2024

Flour sack towels are my favorite for the kitchen. They are so absorbent and dry fast. Great to put around dishes to keep them warm or cool, contain ingredients on a way to a potluck, clean up a spill from transport and soak up condensation.  I also remember embroidering them with my grandmother when I was young.

With this hands-on presentation, we will gather goldenrod fronds and make a dyebath. In the end we will have a beautiful kitchen towel that can be used however you like!

We will be outdoors so prepare for mosquitoes, though we do have the building to escape to if needed. We will also be in or near the prairie/tall grass flowers so long pants might be a good thing to protect your legs.

I will only have enough towels for 10 people because of the amount of pots I have, please register through this website. Though, if you would like to see the process without taking a towel home you are welcome to attend. Just let me know by texting 563-212-0955.

I am hoping to be done before 9 pm but I did put it there as a worst case scenario. If you registered for a towel, you will be taking it home wet to dry and then wash at home.
