Maple Syruping - Two Part Program - pt.1 Tree Tapping
FEB 19 2011 9:00 AM
Event Summary
No matter what the winter is like, spring always comes around. Trees that have been dormant all winter long respond to the increasing day length and warmer temperatures by sending sap flowing through their systems, preparing to nourish the tiny leaf and flower buds at stems’ ends. If we time the tapping right, we can siphon off some of the sweet sap of maple trees and boil it down to make maple syrup. The tree tapping program will involve drilling small holes in select maple trees, installing taps and hooking up the collection system. Boiling off (the second program) is a long process that has the most visible results near the end. Feel free to stop by anytime during the day to see and taste what’s going on.
Dress to be outside in possibly snowy or muddy conditions.
Registration is required for the Tree Tapping portion of this free program.
