Maple Syruping -Two part program- Pt. 1 Tree Tapping

FEB 25 2012 9:00 AM

Kuehn Conservation Area , Dallas County

Event Summary

Spring always comes and trees that have been dormant all winter respond to the increasing daylight hours and warmer temperatures by sending sap flowing through their systems, preparing to nourish the tiny leaf and flower buds at stems’ ends. If we time the tapping right, we can siphon off some of the sweet sap and boil it down to make maple syrup. The tree tapping program will involve drilling small holes in select maple trees, installing taps and hooking up the collection system. Registration required for the Tree Tapping portion of this free program.

Boiling off (the second program which will be March 17) is when we take the collected sap and heat it so the excess water evaporates. This long process has the most visible results near the end. Feel free to stop by anytime that day to see and taste what’s going on. No registration required for Boiling Off.
