Event Summary

Join us to learn the art of Pine Needle Basketry and make your own basket to take home!

Decatur County Conservation Naturalist, Kayla Clausen, has been making Pine Needle baskets for around three years, and loves to share this art with others. By signing up for this event, you are committing to two evenings - Tuesday, November 7th & Thursday, November 9th at 6:00pm.  This art form takes patience and time but becomes very relaxing and enjoyable once you get the hang of it. It will take between 4-6 hours to complete a basket.

On the first evening we will learn about the history of Pine Needle Basket making, what supplies you can use, how to start a basket, and how to work up the edges. Then on the second evening, we will learn how to make a wrapped row, add beads, add a charm, and end a basket. Every participant will go home with their own small, completed basket.

All supplies are included ($20 supply fee). If you have any special beads or charms you would like to incorporate into your basket, please bring them. You will not pay when you register, so please bring cash payment to the class. Maximum 8 participants. Ages 12+.   Registration closes Friday, November 3rd at Noon. Questions? Email Kayla at stalder.decccb@grm.net.
