Event Summary

Trot on over to the Dickinson County Nature Center and gobble up some knowledge during the Turkey Trot hike 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26.                 Dickinson County Conservation Board naturalists Karess Knudtson and Charles Vigdal will lead young and old alike through Kenue Park in Okoboji to learn all about turkeys as Thanksgiving approaches.

“We thought it would be fun to do seasonal hikes corresponding with the holidays,” Vigdal said. “We really like to get people outside when it’s cold so no one gets cabin fever.”

This will be the third year for the Turkey Trot, but this year’s event will be new and exciting. Hikers will stop at various stations throughout Kenue Park to learn all about turkeys, from characteristics of the animal to seeing a model turkey nest to searching for a live turkey with calls.

The event will end at the Dickinson County Nature Center with a craft and snack.
