Pioneer Cemetery Program
JUL 16 2014 6:30 PM
Event Summary
The
Hetland Cemetery, a Hamilton County Pioneer Cemetery, is also known as the
Rorem Cemetery or Hetland Graveyard. A
Pioneer Cemetery is one in which there have been less than 12 burials in the
last 50 years.
Cemetery
walks are designed to draw attention to long-forgotten cemeteries and to
preserve our history. Friends, relatives
and history buffs are welcome to walk the cemetery and learn a little bit about
the people who helped form the southern part of Hamilton County in the late
1800's.
The
evening will feature presentations about some of the county’s early settlers
buried in the cemetery, demonstrations on stone recognition and repair, and how
to locate unmarked grave sites.
Directions: The Hetland Cemetery is located in Scott
Township. Take Hwy 175 east of Ellsworth
to Young Ave. (about 3 ½ miles). Turn
south on Young Ave to 350th street (2 miles); then turn east on 350th
street. The cemetery is located on the
south side of 350th street, about ½ mile. Parking is along the gravel road by the
cemetery.
