Online Campsite Reservations (2024)

Effective January 8th, 2024, the Hancock County Conservation Board will start taking reservations for campsites. Please see the following Frequently Asked Questions for further information.
Q: How will I be able to make a campsite reservation?
A: Campsites will be reservable online at www.mycountyparks.com under the Hancock County page. This is the same website that Cabin and Shelter House rentals are currently made. You can make reservations as a Guest or, Create an Account for future reservations. For step by step instructions, please visit the FAQ section on the website.
Q: How far in advance can reservations be made for campsites?
A: Reservations can be made up to 1 year in advance with a minimum of 5 days in advance. Reservations will be a two night minimum (three nights for Holidays) with a maximum stay of 14 days.
Q: Will all campsites be reservable?
A: No, approximately 50-75% of the sites at both Crystal Lake Park and Eldred Sherwood Park will be reservable.
Q: Will there still be “walk-in” camping sites? (First come, first served)
A: Yes, approximately 25-50% of the sites at both campgrounds will remain “walk-in” or “first come, first served”.
Q: Can reservable sites be used if they are not actively being rented?
A: Yes, reservable campsites can be used as a “walk-in” site if they are not being actively used. Campers should only pay on a “night-to-night” bases and check the site marker daily for the site’s availability.
Q: Do I need to have a Camping Unit on a non-reservable site?
A: Yes, effective for the 2024 camping season, all walk-in camping must have physical Unit (camper, RV, tent, car, trailer) on the site in addition to the camping registration tag and paid fees. This is consistent with all Iowa State Parks and most all County Conservation Board Parks. A site that is only tagged and paid for with no unit will not be considered occupied and the tag will be removed.
Q: Will I be able to pay with a Credit Card?
A: Yes, all online reservations will be paid for with a card on the website.
