Hardin

This segment sits on 245 acres of prairie land with a great primirive area full of timber. This area is used for various outdoor recreation activities, along with providing a shop and office space for the Hardin Co. Conservation Board. It is also good for the hikers, hunters and stream fishermen.

It is the mission of the hardin County Conservation Board to provide safe and healthful recreational opportunities, to protect and enhance county natural resources and to offer opportunities for our residents to participate in conservation education.

The first meeting of the Hardin County Conservation Board was held on July 8, 1958. On August 12, 1958 the first parcel of property was given to the hardin County Consevation Board and is now known as Bieglow Park. On October 5, 1960, Homer Calkins was hired as the fierst executive director.

Over the years the Hardin County Conservation Board has acquired 60 areas and manages over 3,000 acres of timber, prairie, wetlands, parks, campgrounds and the Calkins Nawture Area.

Hardin County has a rich history in many aspects. The Iowa River Greenbelt has been an attraction for people since prehistoric times. One reason for this is the three geological surfaces found in Hardin County, consisting of the Iowan Erosion Surface east of the Iowa River, the Des Moines Lobe west of the Iowa River and the Southern Iowa Drift Plain in the sourthern part of the county.

Location

Located 6 miles east of Iowa Falls on Co. Hwy D15, then south on S Avenue for 3 ½ miles and is situated at the end of the road.
