“AT THE PARK” Series: Explore Your Inner Pioneer--Tanning 101

Event Summary
Tanning 101: Taxidermist Tony Brown, BROTON Taxidermy, will conduct three tanning classes. You provide the legally harvested skin. If you don't have one, contact Tony Brown at 319-537-1061 to check on the availability of a skin to tan at an additional cost. Limit of six participants. Cost is $30.00 per person and includes all materials needed to tan a small mammal pelt. Participants need to bring their hide, hunting license, a clean 5-gallon bucket with lid, safety glasses, two pairs of kitchen gloves sized to your hand, and a sharp skinning knife the first night of class. There will be "homework" between sessions.
January 24th 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Oakland Mills Nature Center: introduction, skinning, fleshing, and drying.
January 31st 6:30-8:30 p.m. at BROTON Studio: pickling, shaving, tanning, and sweating.
February 7th 6:30-8:30 p.m. at BROTON Studio: stretching, drying, and finishing.
