Sacajawea and the Lewis and Clark Expedition

Event Summary

Sakakawea, Sagagawea, “Bird Woman”, or “Janey”: Shoshoni Girl/Woman of History – however you pronounce it or spell it, this strong young woman had a unique place in the history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1803-1806. What is myth? What is fact? What is fiction? One Sacagawea, or two? Guide, Wife, Interpreter, or Slave? A picture of a fascinating young woman emerges from what the past almost 200 years of records have told the world about her. Program presented by Beverly Hinds of Sioux City. Funded by Humanities Iowa. Program is free & open to the public.
