Discover Zillman's Hickory Hills in Fairfield

Known for its sunflower prairie, Zillman’s Hickory Hills hosts migrating monarch butterflies in the fall as they journey south to Mexico. The 46-acre property has a mix of habitats which include two ponds, prairie, and pine timber. The trail winds through the pines and takes you past the Bradshaw Cemetery which has headstones dating back to the 1800’s.

Zillman’s Hickory Hills was donated to the Jefferson County Conservation Board by Carl and Mary Zillman in 1986.  Carl served on the board from 1975 to 1995 and was instrumental in obtaining and developing many of Jefferson County’s outdoor recreation areas.

The mixture of this coniferous and deciduous timber makes the area very attractive to many wildlife species.
