RESURRECTING THE PAST AT CP HISTORICAL SOCIETY CEMETERY
WALK AUGUST 19
Center Point Historical Society members and friends will be bringing the past back to life at the second annual Cemetery Walk, Sunday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m.                 Among the costumed portrayers of Center Point’s dear departed will be Mary and Gary Heins as Gary’s grandparents, Flossie and Oren “Chiney” Heins.  Chiney worked for the railroad for more than 35 years and Flossie ran the This L Do Café.  Railroading is the Historical Society’s 2012 theme.

DeEtta and Dr. Philip Andersen will be portrayers for the second year.  Philip will be L.L. Wilson, Civil War veteran, patent medicine heir and curio collector, who died in 1916.  L.L. Wilson’s family has a tragic connection to railroading.  Two years after his death his widow, his daughter and his brother’s widow--the two widows were also sisters-- were killed on Easter day when the car they were riding in was hit by the Interurban on the north edge of Center Point.                 Also included in this year’s cemetery walk will be one of Center Point’s former “bad boys” played by one of its current good boys, Sam Renning, a Mount Mercy student.  Sam is another portrayer helping out for the second year, as is Jon Brendel.  The other portrayers will be Dusty Sylver, Teresa Scheeler and Rev. John Caughron.

Bob King of Center Point, who wears his geneaologist hat whenever he can find the time, will be available to talk about recording local graves for FindAGrave.com and will be demonstrating the mysterious art of grave witching.  The Cemetery Walk will begin at the middle drive of the cemetery (west of the main gate) where Society member Lois Rowe will be cheerfully asking $6 for admission.  There will be golf cart transport available thanks to Cliff and Rose Beauregard. The rain date is August 26.   For more information call 849-1792.
