Historical Society Harvest Potluck Oct. 30

Northeast Iowa historian Linda McCann will present a program on the old Interurban between Cedar Falls and Waterloo and have signed copies of her brand new book on the subject, “The Cedar Valley Road,” available at the Center Point Historical Society annual Harvest Potluck on Tuesday evening, Oct. 30. The free community event will be held at Center Point Family Dentistry basement, 907 Bank Court. (A chair lift is available.) A potluck supper begins at 6 and the program starts at about 7 p.m. McCann has had several other books published in the last few years, including “Lost Towns of Butler County,” and “Black Hawk County.” “Bremer County” is due out this fall. She is a retired registered nurse who was one of the founders of the Shell Rock Historical Society. Her biggest interest in the WCF&N, the Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Northern Railroad—the Cedar Valley Road—is in how the Interurban became a part of people’s daily lives. The electric railroad operated through Center Point for about 50 years. The Center Point Historical Society’s museum is in leased space in the old Interurban depot now owned by the Linn County Conservation Department, and the old Interurban right of way is the Cedar Valley Nature Trail.
