Public Program

Eastern Iowa Observatory & Learning Center, Linn County

Saturday, March 26, 2016

The Cedar-Amateur Astronomers continues to promote
astronomy and related sciences through its education
programs, presentations, and guided observing sessions.
The next public night program and observing
event will be March 26, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. The speaker
and topic will be announced after January 2016 on the
CAA website at cedar-astronomers.org. The program is
free and no advance reservation or notice is required
for individuals or families to attend. Scheduled public
programs are not presented during December, January,
and February due to rural winter road conditions being
unpredictable for the advance planning needed to attract
major speakers for our events.
Starting in April 2016 the observatory will again be
open every Saturday night for two hours starting at
sunset for individuals and families to drop in, no advance
reservation or notice required. The CCA and Linn
County Conservation have been partners since 1987,
when ground was broken at Palisades-Dows Preserve
for outdoor concrete observing pads, walkways, and a
parking lot. In 2008, work was completed on the 4,600
square foot Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning
Center. For more information about CCA, visit
