Monarch Conservation In Mexico
AUG 18 2018 1:00 PM
Event Summary
Many people in the U.S. and Canada are passionate about protecting North America’s monarch butterfly migration, but what happens once the monarchs reach their overwintering grounds in Mexico? This talk will provide an overview of Mexico’s official conservation efforts and the on-the-ground reality of what ordinary Mexicans are doing to help this fragile phenomenon to survive. Dr. Ellen Sharp is a cultural anthropologist who lives in a tiny town at the entry of the Cerro Pelon, a Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary where she and her husband run an ecotourism business. There is no cost for the program. Donations welcome.
