Meanings Behind the Symbols Used by Prehistoric Native Americans Living on the Prairies


Event Summary

Joe B. Thompson and Dr. David W. Benn of Bear Creek Archeology, Inc.  will describe the styles of symbols used on the earliest functional pottery vessels in the upper Midwest, called Liverpool ware (500 – 100 B.C.), were covered with geometric decorations.  The symbolism of these decorations is analyzed and related to historic Native American mythologies as well as to other prehistoric creations such as Effigy Mounds, rock art, and geoglyphs. Cost is $2.50/adult, $1/child16 and under or $5/family.
