Earth Day River Cleanup

APR 18 2009 8:00 AM

Cappy Russell Access , Louisa County

Event Summary

Note: Children under age 16 must ride in a canoe with an adult.
Volunteers will be working on the Iowa River from Cappy Russell to Ferry Landing in canoes, kayaks and motorized boats to pick up as much trash and debris as possible from last summer’s flood.
The number of canoes and kayaks available for the cleanup is limited so you are encouraged to register early. You may also bring your own canoe or kayak to the clean-up but you still need to pre-register.
Groups are encouraged to attend but youth groups should note that children under 16 must have an adult in the canoe with them (1 adult for each child attending).
Volunteers are also need to help at the boat landings with unloading and sorting trash. If you would like to get involved but do not want to pick up or sort trash, donations of snacks and refreshments for clean-up volunteers are also needed.
This Earth Day river clean-up is made possible by a grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources CLEAR mini-grant with funding through Tri-Rivers Conservation Foundation.
Other sponsors include Louisa County Solid Waste Agency, Louisa County ISU Extension and Louisa County Izaak Walton League. If river conditions are unsuitable, the clean-up will be held at Lake Odessa or on dry land.
