Caldwell Park

Overview

Come visit the Environmental Learning Center and explore all the fun things we have to offer!

Location

2342 HWY 92

Oskaloosa, IA 52577

Features

Visitors are welcome to view the displays at the ELC and participate in the educational programs offered by the naturalist.  A life-sized Woolly mammoth replica skeleton, 1,000-gallon native fish aquarium, and live animals are a few of the highlights seen indoors.  Visitors can also enjoy a picnic at the tables provided outside the lower level of the building, hike the park trails, or even play disc golf on the 18-hole course that winds through woods and prairie.  In the spring of 2025, an all-inclusive nature playscape will be constructed on the west side of the Environmental Learning Center.  This will be an outdoor attraction for visitors of all ages.

Caldwell Park is also the site of Mahaska County’s Freedom Rock.  The rock was completed in 2015 by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorenson II.  The murals are a tribute to the veterans of Mahaska County.
