Green Castle Recreation Area 40th Anniversay Celebration

Event Summary

On August 5, the Marshall County Conservation Board invites you to join us for an afternoon and evening of celebration in honor of this 40 year milestone. The family fun events will start at 2:00 p.m. which include: free canoe or kayak rentals, free fishing poles available to use for fishing, and free lure making. At 5:00 p.m., a free meal will be served to the first 250 people. The highlight of the event will be a free concert featuring Chad Elliott, starting at 6:30 p.m. and going to 9:30 p.m. Chad is lauded as“Iowa’s Renaissance man” by Culture Buzz. The Dean Memorial Observatory will open at 8:30 p.m. for stargazing with the Amateur Astronomers of Central Iowa.

A part of the celebration, we will be giving away a kayak,donated by Theisens. For a chance to win participants must find a token.During the weeks leading up to the event, clues will be given on where to locate tokens hidden throughout our many parks.Participants can listen to Kix101.1 or watch our Facebook page for the clues. You will also have an opportunity to win one of ten tokens at the Linn Creek Art’s Festival on July 15 by visiting the Marshall County Conservation booth. Your last opportunity to have a chance to win will be the day of the event where limited number of tokens will be hidden at Green Castle, clues will be available at 2:00 p.m. At intermission of the concert, the lucky winner will be drawn from the tokens.
