Everyone loves New Zealand’s most famous bird, the kiwi. But what you may not know is that there are actually five species of kiwi, and all five of them are endangered. In fact, many of New Zealand’s native bird species are on the endangered species list. However, many native wildlife sanctuaries have been established in the past twenty years, all with one common goal: to save the remaining birds of New Zealand. Join Naturalist Intern Bill Carey as he shares a bit about these beautiful bird species, his visit to the Tawharanui Bird Sanctuary in Auckland, and what you can do at home to help protect our own native birds right here in Iowa. There is no fee for this program, however pre-registration is required by June 24th before 4:00 p.m. Register by calling at 641-752-5490, emailing mccb@marshallcountyia.gov, or text only 641-752-9777.
