Winter Bird Count

JAN 10 2015 10:00 AM

Prairie Heritage Center , O'Brien County

Event Summary

Look no farther south than the southeast corner of O’Brien County!  Robins and bluebirds often spend the winter in our own backyard!   Join with other birders on a winter excursion hosted by the O’Brien County Conservation Board and the Iowa Lakes Audubon Society.  These organizations are offering a Winter Bird Festival on Saturday, January 10.   Meet at the Prairie Heritage Center on at 10:00 a.m.   The morning will be spent carpooling to local birding “hot spots”.   On the wish list for spotting will be the Townsends Solitaire, Bohemian Waxwing and Golden Eagle.   Bring your own sack lunch, if you choose.  After a brief rest at the Prairie Heritage Center, a caravan will follow the Midwinter Bald Eagle survey route to collect data on Bald Eagles using the Little Sioux River valley as their winter home.   For more information about the event, contact the O’Brien County Conservation Board at 712-295-7200.
