Mentored Youth Waterfowl Hunt


Event Summary

Polk County Conservation and the Iowa DNR Present - 13th Annual Mentored Youth Waterfowl Hunt  

When:   Saturday, October 2 – 5:15 am to 11 am

Where: Meet at Longhouse – Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt

Who: Youth 12 – 15 years old.  Participants must have completed Hunter Safety course.  Limit of 14 participants.

Why: To allow budding duck and goose hunters the opportunity to experience the thrill of waterfowl hunting in a safe and controlled environment.          

Breakfast will be provided.     

Two youth will be teamed with an experienced waterfowl hunter and a conservation officer to serve as mentors.  Youth and mentor will be assigned to individual blinds in the 88-acre controlled waterfowl hunting area at Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt.

Mentors will provide dogs, decoys, calling skills and guidance.  Youth need to bring waders, firearms, and ammunition, however, these can be provided by sponsors if youth do not have. (Ammunition must be steel shot - #4 or 6 shot suggested).  

Registration deadline is Tuesday, September 28.
