Nature Photography Class
Jester Park, Polk County
Saturday, June 18, 2022
Class will begin indoors with a 1hr+
lecture, using demonstrative slide images to explore equipment choices and
features, along with proper photographic techniques. Choice of lenses, ISO
settings, shutter speeds, aperture settings, filters, and camera supports will
be explored. Further emphasis will be on compositional techniques, and creative
use of lighting, to create maximum subject interest, when photographing
wildlife, scenic, wildflower, and macro subjects. During the later part of the
morning, students will participate in “hands-on” photography in the adjacent
prairie and/or wetland. Participants will have the opportunity to use their own
camera equipment, using new-found knowledge to perfect technique in the field.
Subjects could include wildflowers, butterflies, or other interesting nature
subjects near the nature center.
Instructor will assist students, in the field, as they put newly
acquired knowledge to use. This class is primarily geared towards the use of
those digital cameras using interchangeable lenses, although all camera owners
will benefit. Participants should come prepared for the outdoors. Appropriate
outdoor clothing, including hiking boots or similar foot-wear is recommended,
along with protection from the sun and biting insects.
