Knee High Naturalists
Hitchcock Nature Center, Pottawattamie County
Saturday, August 10, 2019
Young learners will get a hands-on nature experience during our new programming series, Knee High Naturalists. Join us for this new program on Saturday, August 10th at 2:30 p.m. at Hitchcock Nature Center. This new programming series is designed for children age 2 to 5 accompanied by an adult & is full of outdoor fun.
Designed to increase engagement between young children and the natural world around them while adult caregivers take an active role in the program experience through shared exploration. Discovery sessions will be child led & provide time for shared learning & a bonding experience. During this program children with their adults will use their imaginations, play, construct, & create their own worlds using various materials during un-directed, child-led play time. This type of child-led, free-form experience has become limited during our structured lives and young children & adults alike benefit from the creative, inventive, & unstructured exploration.
Cost is $3.00 per child, adults free, and includes admission to the park & all program materials. These programs are specifically designed for children age 2 to 5. Programs will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center on the second Saturday of the month, May through October at 2:30 p.m. Online pre-registration is required for these events as space is limited. For questions not answered online please call 712-545-3283, registration will not be taken over the phone.
