From Here to There: Lessons Learned Traveling from the Heartland to the Ends of the

Pottawattamie County Conservation Office, Pottawattamie County

Thursday, June 10, 2021

Although her travels didn't take her everywhere, Suzanne Gucciardo visited a lot of remote and hard to reach places on all seven continents B.C. (before Covid).  She saw firsthand how different societies face changing conditions brought on by resource depletion and developing technologies.  This led to a greater appreciation of how fortunate US citizens are in comparison.  Tips on how to be a good traveler, and how both the traveler and host can benefit from a shared encounter, grew out of her experiences.

Join Suzanne Gucciardo, for our next Speaker Series at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 10th at the Council Bluffs Public Library. A native Iowan, Suzanne was born with wanderlust...the desire to see faraway places.  Family car trips during her childhood were good training for how to travel around North America, but didn't satisfy the urges for distant shores.  After retiring as a biologist for the National Park Service, Suzanne finally went global.  Over the last seven years, she has spanned the World from the Scandinavian Arctic to Antarctica, Africa to Mongolia, and places between.  A curiosity about how man has used and altered natural landscapes over the millennia motivates her to keep traveling.
