Great Backyard Bird Count
McFarland Park, Story County
Friday, February 16, 2024
Enjoy a quiet morning learning about Iowa birds and a
special citizen science project, Great Backyard Bird Count. To start off our
morning, there will be a short presentation about this global volunteer project
and birding basics. Then participants can choose to set out on a self-guided
hike to search for birds or cozy up inside by our bird viewing window to count
birds. A light breakfast of bagels, donuts, coffee and juice will be provided
during the program.
Whether you are a novice bird watcher or a seasoned “bird
nerd”, we could use your help counting!
Other: Volunteers
need to count birds for a minimum of 15 minutes for their numbers to count
towards the research project. All ages are welcome to attend.
Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the
weather. Binoculars will be provided but
participants are encouraged to bring their own.
Equipment Provided: Binoculars, bird guides, and a
light breakfast (bagels & donuts), snowshoes (if there is enough snow).
Unless
otherwise stated, refunds can be issued less a $5.00 processing fee per event
for cancellations prior to the registration deadline. No refunds will be made
after the registration deadline. To cancel a registration, please call (515)
