OWLS (Older Wiser Livelier Souls) – STAR 1 by Sara Samms

Story County Conservation Center, Story County

Thursday, January 6, 2022

When you think of search and rescue, what comes to mind? Usually, it's a dog and someone in a bright neon vest. Maybe it's the pictures from tv after hurricanes or even 9/11. Again, most likely it's a dog jumping from one pile of rubble to the next.  Have you ever thought about horses doing search and rescue? How about horses doing scent work in search and rescue? Yes, horses can scent out people similar to a good trailing dog. I will introduce you to the mounted unit of Star 1 Search and Rescue and explain in more detail how equine scenting works. Any age is welcome to come, but the program is more focused towards adults.

These free programs are held the first Thursday of the month from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.  Doors open at 10:00 AM for coffee/tea and chatting.
