July Topic –The Civilian Conservation Corps in NE Iowa with Linda McCann. The Civilian Conservation Corps was a federal program during the Depression years that assisted young men to support their families, and also worked to renew our natural resources. The men lived in camps and worked on projects. Most people in Iowa know about the work done on state parks; such as Backbone, Palisades-Kepler, McBride, and at Eagles Point. But, in Iowa, over 75% of the work projects were made up of erosion control, flood prevention, drought work, and planting trees. There were erosion control camps at Monticello and Maquoketa in this area. Tama had an Indian CCC project in the area. They worked on erosion, planted a pine forest, and built a stone building. Linda has spoke with 18 men who were in the CCC and shares their memories and stories. Copies of Linda's book will be available for purchase.

Please pre-register by the day before by calling or emailing Logan at (641)484-2231 or lroberts@tamacounty.org
