Carefree Butterfly Gardening with Prairie Plants with Benjamin Vogt, of Monarch Gardens

Event Summary

2:00 p.m., Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center. Native plants, when properly sited, are far easier to maintain and have greater wildlife value than exotic plants. We'll look at stunning examples of both host and nectar plants for butterflies, strategies to garden for pollinators year round (yes even in winter!), and why gardening for wildlife is important as our climate changes. Science, philosophy, ecology, and over 80 images will get you pumped up for spring. Benjamin Vogt owns Monarch Gardens, a prairie garden consulting & design firm in Lincoln, Nebraska. He writes a weekly garden column at Houzz.com and tours the country speaking for the Great Plains. Visit him at monarchgard.com Participants will receive free Butterfly Milkweed seeds to take home and plant. There will be butterfly crafts for kids as well. In conjunction with and hosted by the Woodbury County Conservation Foundation Annual Meeting. Free and open to the public.
