Technician / Naturalist

Appanoose County Conservation Board Appanoose County Conservation Board is seeking a full time Natural Resource Technician / Naturalist. The selected applicant will be responsible for routine maintenance of parks, trails, nature center, and natural areas. This includes natural resource management, janitorial duties, and building maintenance. This position will also assist the Naturalist with preparing and conducting naturalist programs and camps, nature center tours, and animal care. Applicants must be willing to work nontraditional hours which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Pay is $15.00 - $17.00 per hour depending upon experience.

Duties will include, under direction of Co-Directors,
• General park maintenance including mowing, weed trimming, litter pick-up, tree planting/trimming, noxious and invasive weed removal, establishment and management of food plots and prairies.
• Maintenance and cleaning of park facilities including maintenance of nature center, campground shelters, shower building, restrooms, and trails
• Must be able to operate tractors, skid loader, chainsaws, lawn mowers, and other power tools.
• Must be proficient at pulling trailers, and loading and unloading equipment.
• Maintenance of equipment including vehicles, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, line trimmers, and other power equipment.
• Snow removal from roads and parking area.
• General plumbing and electrical work.
• Will also be responsible for assistance with environmental education programs.
• Communicate with park guests about rules and regulations as needed
• Other duties as needed or assigned. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Must be able to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, balance, climb, and operate all hand and power equipment for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift 50lbs.
• Ability to follow instructions, both written and oral.
• Must be able to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
• Must be able to work around smoke, dust, fumes, and loud noises.
• Ability to speak in front of groups of varying ages, and give impactful programs.
• Ability to work independently and oversee seasonal and volunteer staff.
• Must be detail oriented

Qualifications
• Must be over 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
• Must have High School diploma
• Education, experience, or interest in natural resources, wildlife biology, ecology, forestry, or related field of study preferred    

Must have or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire
• CPR/First Aid Certified
• Stop the Bleed
