Description
Description
Full time Naturalist position
with Pocahontas County Conservation. Naturalist will plan, develop, coordinate
and present environmental education programs for schools, youth and adult
groups and the general public.
Schedules
programs and activities and maintain records of programs.
Educates
teachers and youth leaders in areas pertaining to nature, conservation and the
environment.
Develop
program goals and objectives including a long range EE plan
Develops
newsletters, brochures, displays, signs and exhibits
Maintain
PCCB social media content and websites
Communicate
effectively with staff and general public
Maintain
live animal displays
Develop
summer camp programs
Required Skills:
Knowledge
of ecology, nature ID, conservation principles and practices, outdoor skills
and the environment
Develop
curricula using an understanding of teaching methods and learning styles
Ability
to relate and speak effectively to all age groups and target audiences
Establish
and maintain effective working relationships with general public and staff
Basic
knowledge of social media platforms
Knowledge
of computers and computer programs useful in Environmental Education practices
Capacity
to use various hand tools related to carpentry or landscaping
Ability
to demonstrate basic outdoor skills such as camping, kayaking, canoeing,
fishing, hunting, shooting, hiking, archery, etc.
Enthusiasm,
creativity, initiative, flexibility and a willingness to grow professionally
and stay current on EE practices
Ability
to work in a physically demanding environment under all types of weather. This position will require a non-standard work
week and will include nights, holidays and weekends
Education Requirements:
Graduation from an
accredited four (4) year college or university with major coursework in the
natural sciences, outdoor recreation, biology, forestry, parks and recreation,
Education, or other natural resource concentration or a job-related field
Other Requirements:
Valid
Driver's license and insurable under the County Insurance
CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
