Description
Full time position under general supervision of the Conservation Board Director and direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor, this employee is responsible for maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles, maintenance and repair of park facilities, construction of park facilities, grounds maintenance and natural resource management on all areas managed by the Conservation Board. Employee, in conjunction with Operations Supervisor, is responsible for organizing and coordinating work projects with both seasonal and full time staff.
The following duties are considered normal for this position but not all inclusive:
-repair and maintenance of buildings and facilities including construction, plumbing, electrical, welding and fabrication.
-grounds maintenance work including mowing, trimming, tree trimming, hauling gravel, garbage removal, snow removal
-operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, skid loader, mini excavator and wheel loaders
-perform basic plumbing activities such as installing sinks and toilets, soldering pipes, cleaning drains, repair/replace drain and water lines
-perform maintenance and repairs to equipment such as vehicles, mowers, chain saws, small engines, trailers, tractors, heavy equipment, seeders and utility vehicles
-make recommendations and order repair parts or supplies
-assist in new construction of structures utilizing blue prints and building plans
-provide work direction of seasonal staff in grounds maintenance or special repair/building projects
-develop project work lists in cooperation with Operations Supervisor and Park Rangers to assist in prioritizing work projects
-responsible for opening and closing parks and facilities
-required to work irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed
-responsible for acquiring, maintaining and keeping current any and all required licensing and certifications
The following are general knowledge/skills and abilities required for this position but not all inclusive:
-identify problems, troubleshoot and develop practical solutions
-ability to work independently and also in a team setting
-working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical and construction principles
-ability to operate and maintain various equipment, vehicles and hand tools used for daily operations
-knowledge of Conservation Board policies, procedures and regulations
-basic knowledge of construction principles, materials and methods used in construction of park facilities
-basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems used in park facilities
-general conservation knowledge relating to prairies, forests, wetlands, ponds, lakes, rivers and wildlife
-good leadership skills and ability to work with other staff
-ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
-ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing 75 pounds
-ability to stand, bend, reach, climb and crawl
Other Qualifications
-must have or have the ability to obtain an Iowa Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement
-have a valid Iowa Drivers license and be accepted by employer's vehicle insurance company
-must have or have the ability to obtain a category six commercial pesticide applicator license
-must have or have the ability to obtain S130/S190 prescribed wildland fire certification
-CPR/First Aid certification
-subject to pre employment drug test, physical and background check after offer of hire
-all required licensing or certifications not currently held must be obtained within one year of hire
Qualifications
Minimum two year degree in a conservation or natural resource related field or high school diploma with a minimum two years work experience in a conservation related field.
