Job Description: Performs departmental duties under the
direct supervision and guidance of the Ida County Conservation Naturalist.
Assists in coordinating and presenting
environmental education programs for schools, youth nature camps, and the public. Develops
related written, audiovisual, and display materials such as scavenger hunts and
social media posts.
Carries
out general maintenance tasks at the Conservation Center including animal care,
aquarium and exhibit care, and cleaning grounds.
Other
work as assigned by supervisors in line with department responsibilities.
Hours:
The intern will work 165 hours over the summer. The schedule will include
weekends and non-standard hours. Starting June 1st through August 10th 2024.
Salary:
$12/hour.

Typical physical demands: Requires full range of body
motion, manual and finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and depth
perception. Requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing steps, stooping,
kneeling, crouching, and operating a motor vehicle on a regular basis within
any given workday. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
Requires working irregular and long hours. There will be exposure to animals
(such as rodents, insects, snakes, turtles, fish, etc.), and other adverse
environmental conditions. May require operation of a motor vehicle before,
during, or after adverse weather conditions have occurred. Reasonable
accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform
the essential functions.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: Interest in these or related fields: outdoor recreation, biology, environmental education, or early childhood education. Good public relations. A valid driver’s license. Must be 17 by June 1st to apply.
