Position Description Summary: The Administrative Assistant is a full-time non-exempt, at will employee of the Mahaska County Conservation Board.  This position will have a probationary period of six (6) months.  The Administrative Assistant carries out assigned routine duties relating to office operation, public information, and general administration under the supervision of the Executive Director.  The Administrative Assistant assists the Director and staff by completing special tasks and projects as assigned.  Tasks and projects include but are not limited to; general park maintenance such as mowing, trimming, and cleaning.  This position is responsible for performing janitorial duties in offices, restrooms, and nature center.  This position is also responsible for scheduling, inspections, collecting fees, and janitorial duties for the cabin facilities.  The Administrative Assistant shall track and schedule all rentals of watercraft, shelters, and agricultural habitat equipment. The position will also assist the Naturalist with public programs and management of social media and volunteer coordination.

Education and Experience Requirements: An associate degree as an Administrative Assistant or related field is required; or one to three years’ experience in a related field, or the equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Required Special Certification Requirements:     Must have a valid Iowa driver’s license and dependable transportation.   Must have or be able to acquire within one (1) year of hire the following: CPR, First Aid, AED certification

Specific Duties:

 Attends Board and staff meetings and records meeting notes, Performs varied office administrative tasks.  Accurately preparing correspondence, documents, reports, forms, records, articles, and other materials,   Prepares bills and claims for submission,  Maintains all schedules for the watercraft, shelters, agricultural habitat equipment, and cabins,   Maintains social media sites and MCCB website, Collects all fees for rentals, Completes inspections and clean-up of cabin facilities and surrounding areas, documenting infractions, Performs general park maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding etc. upon request.  Keeps current in safety and maintenance operations through attendance at meetings, conferences, and workshops, Compile and compose the annual report,  Assists other conservation board staff with special projects and programs.

Required Knowledge, Experience, Abilities, Skills: ·Have a general knowledge of conservation techniques and principles; or have the desire and attitude to both learn and apply conservation techniques where applicable.  Uses independent judgment to solve problems,   Ability to interact with the public, co-workers, supervisors, and public officials in a friendly and courteous manner. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office 365, ·       Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.  Knowledge and background in conservation preferred. Performs other related duties as assigned, Ability to push, pull and lift 50lbs.

Hours of Work: Generally, 40 hours per week during a seven (7) day period.  May be required to work additional hours on weekends or during the week. Weekly schedule may vary depending upon department needs

Special Requirements:   Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment requirements such as a criminal background check and pre-employment physical including drug screening.
