Jasper
County Conservation has an immediate opening for a full-time Maint. Tech. /
Park Officer to perform routine maintenance, repairs and provide security and
rule enforcement at county parks, bike trails, campgrounds, conservation properties
and assist with various programs. Some
evening or weekend work may be required.
Pay Range is $22.03 to $34.57 per hour, based on qualifications and
experience. This position is eligible
for County paid benefits and IPERS retirement.
Under general direction, manages designated parks and
public access areas; provides security of facilities and premises of the County
Conservation Board; enforces Board policies and rules; performs ongoing
maintenance/repair of equipment, premises, buildings, parks and public access
areas; operates and maintains equipment, machinery and tools used in various
maintenance and repair functions; participates in forestry management and prairie
restoration; prepares food plot areas to provide food and cover for wildlife. This position will be stationed at Mariposa Park for
daily work but will assist in all the parks and conservation areas as required or
needed. Selected individual will oversee
the campground and cabin usage and facilities at the Mariposa site.
Qualifications: Degree
in Natural Resources field or State of Iowa Law Enforcement certification preferred
but not required. Experience in such
areas as law enforcement, forestry, parks management, recreation, building, automotive, construction or maintenance
trades or similar program areas helpful.
Candidates must possess a valid Iowa Driver License
with a good driving record. Must possess
or be able to obtain the following certifications: CDL, Pesticide Application,
Wildland Firefighter, and Hunter Education Instructor. Must be courteous and respectful to the
public and able to answer questions and provide
information about park services. Responsible
for general parks, equipment maintenance security and rule enforcement. Must be able to operate and maintain
vehicles, trailers, commercial lawn mowing equipment, tractors, and specialized
attachments. Should possess basic knowledge of and have ability to perform
construction work. This is a job
requiring strenuous physical work involving climbing, balancing, stooping,
kneeling, reaching, lifting, and requiring good hearing and vision. Must be able to lift-up to 50 pounds and
operate equipment on rough terrain during dusty, hot, cold, or wet conditions
for extended periods of time. Will be
required to work some nights and weekends to patrol areas and/or emergency
repairs, especially during the summer recreational season. Will assist environmental education staff on
field trips and education programs. A

Typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday 7:00
AM to 3:30 PM. Some evening or weekend
work may be required for emergencies or as deemed necessary by the Director.
