~SEASONAL Marina Bait Shop Assistant~
POSITION: Seasonal Marina Bait Shop Assistant with the Buena Vista County Conservation Board, Storm Lake, Iowa.
EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: Flexible: May – November. Flexible Work Schedule. Potential upward mobility to permanent part time or longer work season.
SALARY: Competitive wage based on experience, no benefits, uniform shirts provided.
DESCRIPTION: We are seeking an enthusiastic and customer-oriented Seasonal Bait Shop Assistant to join our team at Casino Bay Bait and Tackle Shop located at Casino Bay Marina/Storm Lake Marina in Storm Lake, Iowa. As a member of our team, you will play a key role in providing excellent customer service, ensuring our customers have everything they need for a successful day on the lake and helping to maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment and surrounding facility for the public to enjoy. This is a seasonal position, perfect for individuals who enjoy working to support the outdoors and engaging with the local community.
Key Responsibilities:
Including but not limited to-
1. Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner as they enter the store.
2. Assist customers with purchasing live bait, fishing tackle, prepackaged food, beverages, and other related products.
3. Provide knowledgeable recommendations on fishing supplies and local fishing conditions.
4. Maintain an organized and stocked store, ensuring bait tanks are kept fresh and inventory is well-managed.
5. Keep the shop clean and neat, including the sales floor, bait tanks, restocking shelves, and cleaning up spills or debris.
6. Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions accurately using the point of sale (POS) system.
7. Restock prepackaged food and beverages like soda, snacks, and other convenience items.
8. Assist with opening and closing duties, including cash drawer balancing and securing the store.
9. Ensure all products are stored and displayed safely and in accordance with safety guidelines.
10. Assist in the upkeep of the shop’s website and social media presence, if applicable.
11. Occasionally help with outdoor activities like restocking supplies or unloading deliveries.
12. Assist with nuisance wildlife deterrence and cleanup.
13. Checking garbage cans and garbage cleanup on property.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Minimum: Must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid Driver’s License.
- Prior retail or customer service experience is preferred, but not required.
2. An interest in fishing and knowledge of local fishing spots is a plus!
3. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and be on your feet for long periods of time.
4. Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude when interacting with customers.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
6. Ability to routinely stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, and balance for extended periods of time.
7. Follow written and oral instructions.
8. Basic math skills and familiarity with handling cash transactions.
9. Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
10. Must be able to work in various weather conditions as some tasks may be outdoors.
